unable to get to any microsoft web page

I just reinstalled the software on my laptop and I get onto
any web page except anything connected with microsoft such as hotmail
update msn.co.uk

When I first started up internet explorer it said
runonce.msn.co.uk which I think does something, anyway I interrupted
it and went onto a google page, since then I just get
page cannot be displayed if I try anything to do with microsoft.

I've tried checking the settings on automatically detect settings etc
but no use.

Has anyone got any suggestions please, thanks in advance.
